Shingle Roofing FAQ

What is the average price to replace a shingle roof?

It depends on roof size and pitch, the shingle type, how many old layers must come off, deck repairs, flashing and access. We give a free written estimate after measuring the roof. [Owner: optional typical price range from your own jobs. Leave out if you prefer quoting per job]

How long do shingle roofs last?

InterNACHI's estimated life expectancy chart lists 3-tab asphalt at about 20 years, architectural asphalt at about 30, wood at about 25, metal at 40–80 and slate at 60–150 years, assuming regular maintenance.

Can you replace just some shingles?

Yes. Missing or damaged shingles can usually be replaced individually if the rest of the roof is sound. Matching color on an older asphalt roof can be difficult, which we discuss before starting.

What time of year is best to replace a shingle roof?

Asphalt shingles seal best in mild, dry weather, so spring through fall is ideal. Winter installs are possible with the right practices; we will tell you if conditions are not right.
