Tile Roofing in Brooklyn & NYC

Tile roofs, from Spanish-style clay to concrete, slate, composite and metal tiles, can last for decades, but they need roofers who know how to walk on, remove and reset tiles without breaking them. On most tile roofs the tiles outlast the underlayment and flashing beneath them, so repairs often mean lifting tiles, fixing what is underneath and relaying them.

Tile Roofing FAQ

Can I walk on a clay tile roof?

It is best not to. Clay and concrete tiles can crack under foot, especially in the middle of the tile. Roofers spread their weight on the strongest points or use walk boards. If you need something checked, call us rather than going up.

How expensive is it to replace a tile roof?

Cost depends on the tile type, roof size and pitch, how many tiles can be salvaged and reused, underlayment and flashing replacement, and whether the structure needs work. We give a free written estimate. [Owner: optional typical price range from your own jobs. Leave out if you prefer quoting per job]

Can you repair just a section of a tile roof?

Yes. Broken tiles can be replaced and sections can be lifted to replace underlayment or flashing, then relaid. Finding matching tiles for older roofs is sometimes the hardest part.

How long does a tile roof last?

InterNACHI's estimated life expectancy chart lists clay and concrete tile at 100+ years and slate at 60–150 years with regular maintenance. Underlayment and flashing usually need attention much sooner than the tiles themselves.
